A Modern Workshop
The Bullington Workshop expands upon a simple modern house built in 2002, this modern workshop and carport further define a clearing in the woods to create a unified homestead for the homeowner, Tom Bullington, to enjoy. A 4-foot grid provides efficiency and organization. Abundant natural light filters through north-facing clerestory windows. Corrugated weathering steel and simple painted plywood in red and black pay homage to the existing house as well as the simple barns and outbuildings that occupied the agrarian landscape before the second growth forests. Views of two surrounding stone piles – ruins from a farmhouse and barn – frame the forest and further reveal the history of the land.
