Little Iversen Residence
New American House Project
The Little Iversen Residence design is one of twelve being developed by twelve architects for the New American House Project. Each house will model modern ideas for sustainable green homes in the Triangle. Set on a steep slope, this design uses the house to mediate between level areas created for entry/parking and for outdoor/living. Masonry and earth – grounded materials – define the feel of rooms near and below grade. Glass, wood, and steel take on crisper forms to define the more ethereal upstairs rooms that cantilever above the entry. Green strategies include; use of healthy materials, collection of rain by the low slope roofs for irrigation, south facing windows to maximize natural lighting, carefully placed windows and vents to make use of prevailing winds, and efficient, yet flexible, layouts and landscapes that are indented to evolve along with the family.
